The 1960's feminist movement had people talking about women burning their bras, but did it really happen; scholars tend to disagree. The tossing of women's bra's and underclothing was suppose to be a demonstration against stereotypical societies relating to women. The symbolic act of tossing these garments into the trash was meant to critique modern day beauty culture, a culture that critiques a women on how she looks rather than her whole self.
Today the "sisters" of Sisterhood of Bitches carries on this mind frame. The strong, independent woman who demands to be valued for who she is; our sisters come in every shape, color, and size.
